1. Har Ki Pauri
Har Ki Pauri is a major landmark place and a famous ghat on the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar. A center place of attraction among devotees in Haridwar, Har ki Pauri is believed to be the place of exit of holy river Ganga from the mountains.
World famous Ganga Aarti takes place in Brahmakund area of Har ki Pauri, a sacred spot where it is believed that the nectar (Amrit) fell on earth. Largest fairs of Hindu’s, Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh also takes place at Har ki Pauri.
King Vikramaditya constructed the sacred bathing ghats at Har ki Pauri in the memory of his brother, Bhatrihari who had come to meditate in Haridwar. It is believed that Lord Vishnu had visited Brahmkund in Har ki Pauri. A stone wall located at Har ki Pauri having a large footprint is believed to belong to Lord Vishnu.
2. Ganga Aarti
Haridwar is famous for Har ki Pauri and it’s Ganga Aarti. Ganga aarti means worship of Ganga. Lots of people visit this place for Ganga Aarti everyday at 06:00 pm – to 07:00 pm (Daily). The priest holds large fire bowls in their hands, the bells in the temples at the Ghat start ringing, and the chants of mantras flowing out in the air. People float diyas, with flowers on Ganga.
The shadow reflects on the river and lighting diyas on the flowing Ganga looks so beautiful that cannot be expressed in words. It is a very fascinating experience to participate in the Ganga Aarati performed in the evening at Har Ki Pauri. This place is famous for its Ganga Aarti at dusk among tourists as well as devotees.
Har Ki Pauri was built in 1st century by Raja Vikram. His brother Bhratuhari did Austerity here for Lord Vishnu. After his Austerity Lord Vishu appeared and gives him blessings.
3. Mansa Devi
Mansa Devi Temple is one of the most revered temple of Goddess Mansa Devi located at Bilwa Parvat near Haridwar. This temple is a holy place to worship Goddess Mansa, who is believed to be a form of Shakti, emerged from the mind of great Sage Kashyap. Mansa Devi temple is a famous Siddhpeeth and offers panoramic views of Haridwar city.
Mansa Devi completes the trio of Siddhpeeth in Haridwar with Chandi Devi and Maya Devi. Inner shrine of the Mansa Devi temple has two idols which are worship by the devotees. Located facing Chandi Devi temple in Neel Parvat, Mansa Devi temple has a 3 km pedestrian path from Haridwar.
There is a rope way service called Mansa Devi Udankhatola, available from Haridwar. Mansa Devi temple remains open from 8 am to 5 pm and visited by hundreds of devotees everyday.
4. Chandi Devi
Chandi Devi Temple is a holy temple located at a hill top, Neel Parvat near Haridwar. Goddess Chandi is the presiding diety of the temple and believed to be a Siddh Peeth where desires get fulfilled.
Located at 4 km from Haridwar, main idol in Chandi Devi temple was believed to be established by great saint Adi Shankaracharya in 8th AD. Present structure was constructed by King of Kashmir Suchan Singh. Along with Maya Devi and Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi completes the trio of Siddhpeeth. As per mythology, two demons Shumbh – Nishumbh captured the kingdom of Lord Indra.
Ropeway constructed and operated by Udan Khatola provides great service by facilitating safe and time-saving transportation to the hill-top shrine. Attracted by the beauty of Goddess Parvati, demon Shumbh wished to marry her. After got refused, Shumbh send his two chiefs Chand – Mund to fight with Goddess Parvati.
5. Bharat Mata Mandir
Bharat Mata Mandir is a famous multi-storey temple of Mother India built to salute the dedication of all the patriots and freedom fighters. Inaugurated by the Late Indian prime minister Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1983, Swami Satyamitranand Giri established Bharat Mata Temple. Temple has eight stories and each story has a different theme dedicated to several legends and deities.
From the height of 180 feet of all eight floors of Bharat Mata Mandir, visitors can witness a scenic skyline of Haridwar with the mountains of Rajaji National Park. There is a lift facility for visiting different floors of the temple.
