1. Lakshman Jhula

Lakshman Jhula is an iron suspension bridge over the holy river Ganga at Rishikesh. A famous landmark place in Rishikesh, Lakshman Jhula is 450 feet length connecting Pauri district with Tehri district. Lakshman Jhula also offers a panoramic view of river Ganga and Rishikesh city having number of temples.

As per legends, here Lord Rama younger brother Lakshman crossed the river Ganga on a jute rope. Later on a jute rope bridge was built here to honour Lakshman. Till 1889, there was a 284 feet long hanging jute rope bridge which was washed away in floods of October 1924. After that a new bridge was built in 1930.

Trayambakeshwar Temple, Sachha Akhileswar Mahadev Temple, Lakshman Temple and Sri Raghunathji’s Temple are the major temples located near Lakshman Jhula.

 

2. Neelkanth Mahadev

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a sacred and famous temple located at 32 kms from Rishikesh. Scenically situated on a hill at a height of 1330 mtrs, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a one of the most popular temples of Lord Shiva. The temple is surrounded by three valleys namely Manikoot, Brahmakoot and Vishnukoot which makes it a religious place at the confluence of two perennial rivers Pankaja and Madhumati.

Nellkanth Temple is a famous pilgrimage near Rishikesh, the temple lies above Swargashram adjacent to Nar Narayan mountain range. As per mythology, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a holy place where Lord Shiva consumed the poison originated from ocean (Samudra Manthan) and placed in his throat. This makes Lord Shiva’s throat blue in colour and named Neelkanth. This Mahadev Temple is best place for Lord Shiva devotees and people from far away places visit this sacred place round the year.

3. Ram Jhula

Ram Jhula is a famous landmark place in Rishikesh city. It is an iron suspension bridge over holy river Ganga. Ram Jhula has the length of 450 feet connecting Shivananda Ashram with Swargashram. 

Ram Jhula also offers a panoramic view of river Ganga and Rishikesh city having number of temples. Ram Jhula was built by PWD with the help of Shivananda Ashram in 1980. Previously it was a hanging jute ropeway bridge without any pillars. 

Ram Jhula has attractions like Shivananda Ashram, Swargashram, Beatles Ashram, Yog Niketan, Parmarth Niketan, Geeta Bhawan and many more holy places. There are markets on both sides of the Ram Jhula.

4. Triveni Ghat

Triveni Ghat is a sacred ghat in Rishikesh famous for the Ganga Aarti. Triveni word comes from joining of two words Tri (three) and Veni (confluence) meaning the confluence of three. It is one of the biggest and must-visit ghat of Rishikesh known for its auspicious and spiritual aroma.

Triveni Ghat is famous among pilgrims to take a holy dip in the sacred river Ganga. Every day Ganga Aarti is performed on the Triveni Ghat managed by Ganga Seva Samiti. One can participate at Ganga Aarti by contacting Ganga Seva Samiti by paying a nominal fee.

Ganga Seva Samiti used this money for management of Triveni Ghat such as cleanliness, facilities, festivals etc. Visitors can also take a boat ride in the river Ganga from Triveni Ghat. Boat service is offered by Swami Narayan Mission Society on nominal cost per person. Geeta Temple and Laxmi Narayan Temples are major temples on Triveni Ghat.

5. Beatles Ashram

In the suburban alleys of Rishikesh, there is an erstwhile ashram of late Guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi also known as the Beatles Ashram where the Fab-four attended a session of transcendental meditation. It was here that the English rock band composed over 50 songs during their stay in 1968.

In 1961, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi took 15 acres of land from the Forest Department on lease for 20 years and despite making grave efforts, the ashram administration failed to renew the lease and it expired in 1981.

In 2000, the Supreme Court issued an order asking the Forest Department to get rid of all the illegal occupants from the reserve area, across the country. Maharishi’s staff evacuated the place by 2003 and the ashram was left to breathe in peace.

6. Tera Manzil Temple

Tera Manzil Temple is a famous tourist spot and holy multi-story temple located on the banks of the river Ganga in Rishikesh. Also called Trimbakeshwar Temple in Rishikesh, this holy shrine has 13 stories and each story has several idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Tera Manzil Temple is located near the Lakshman Jhula on the banks of the river Ganga in Rishikesh. One can reach Tera Manzil Temple by walking from Lakshman Jhula. The nearest railway station to reach Lakshman Jhula is Rishikesh Railway Station (6 km) and the airport at Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (23 km).

Visitors are attracted to its huge decorative symmetric architecture. From the top floor of the Tera Manzil Temple, one can witness a panoramic sunset view. Tera Manzil Temple is located in In Rishikesh ( Near Laxman Jhula).

7. Kunjapuri Devi Temple

Kunjapuri Devi Temple is a sacred temple of immense importance in the Hindu religion. Located at an height of 1676 meters on a hill, Kunjapuri Devi Temple is one of the 52 Shaktipeeth in Uttarakhand. Here at Kunjapuri Devi Temple, the chest of burned Sati had fallen. Kunjapuri Devi Temple also offers panoramic views of snow-capped mountains and peaks such as Swarga Rohini, Gangotri, Banderpunch, and Chaukhamba. Kunjapuri Devi Temple receives devotees from faraway places and during the Navratri and Dussehra Festival, a grand celebration is held at the temple.

Kunjapuri Devi Temple also completes the triangle of three Siddha Peeths lying on top of mountains in Tehri Garhwal district. Kunja Puri-Surkanda Devi-Chandrabadni makes the triangle of Siddha Peeths. There are 80 steep steps to reach the main shrine of Kunjapuri Devi Temple from the road. Kunjapuri Devi Temple is situated at the top of a hill and has a beautiful temple complex.
