Situated in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand, the magnificent temple of Rudranath is one of the five holy Panch Kedars (the cluster of five shrines of Lord Shiva). The other four holy Panch Kedars are Kedarnath, Tungnath, Madhyamaheshwar, and Kalpeshwar. It is said that in order to hide from the Pandavas Lord Shiva turned himself into a bull but Bheema detected that the bull is in the form of Lord Shiva and tried to capture him. The bull disappeared and reappeared in five body parts which are located at different places, currently called as Panch Kedars. The hump of the bull is in Kedarnath, the arms are in Tungnath, the stomach in Madhyamaheshwar, and the head and hair in Kalpeshwar. As per the legends, the face of the lord Shiva embodied mysteriously on a Shivling at Rudranath Temple. Rudranath is the highly revered temple of Lord Shiva is peacefully adorned in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is the fourth temple to visit in the circuit of Panch Kedar pilgrimage. The celestial temple is snuggled inside the rhododendron forests and the alpine meadows.
The exhilarating trek to Rudranath temple can be either commenced from Sagar village, Helang or Urgam village. Rudranath temple is the toughest one to reach in comparison with other temples of Panch Kedar. The Himalayan peaks adding to the glory of Rudranath are Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nanda Ghunti.

The Opening date of the holy Rudranath Dham always remains near 20 May every year. The doors of Shri Rudranath Ji remain open for six months before going to its winter seat. The Rudranath Temple closes near 18 Oct every year depending on the weather conditions. Kedarnath forest division has decided to take a security deposit of Rs 100 per plastic item, like packets of instant noodles and biscuits, mineral water bottles, etc from visitors going to Rudranath.
